Apartments, social housing, hospital part of 20-year plan
Scores of local business owners turned out for this month's BA5, which was held at the new Totara Bush Business Park. Expecting it be solely a trade-based business park the Wayne Bishop Group has been overwhelmed with interest from non-trade businesses.
Wayne Bishop and Barry Judd presented their 20-year plan and showcased a few projects they have in the wings. Staff had mocked up a few models of some of the projects too. They included a three-storey apartment complex at Speldhurst, social housing on Hinemoa St, a hospital, projects on Bath St, Kennedy Drive, Mabel St, Muhunoa East Road, Beachwood Ave, as well as a mental health unit close to the old hospital in Liverpool St, where HLC is based, and a revamp of Tatum Park into a modern conference centre/wedding venue.
Bishop said the social housing units on Hinemoa St will be partially occupied by the end of the year. Speldhurst Country Estate now has 600 residents and is sold out. "There is a big demand for the serviced apartments that are going up next with one or two bedroom units."
His plans for a hospital will be bought forward, he said.
He said many of his projects are not just houses or buildings "We are trying to build community, so each complex will have facilities to encourage that, such as playgrounds, or a community centre".
