ELECTRA BUSINESS AFTER FIVE

Our BA5 are supported by the Horowhenua District Council, HNZT and Electra. These monthly gatherings provide the perfect opportunity for business owners to network, socialise, share experiences and make valuable business connections in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. You’ll also hear from some exciting and innovative speakers about national and international topics, and how these relate to Horowhenua.  

The next Electra BA5 event is being held on Thursday 21st November, at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō at 5.30pm.

The speaker is a familiar face, Brad Olsen who is the Chief Executive and principal economist at Infometrics, which is an economic intelligence and forecasting services. We look forward to welcoming him back to Horowhenua for his latest economic update for the district and how the economy is doing as we head into 2025.

SEPTEMBER BA5 - YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PANEL

A "locals" speaker panel include Mariah Hori te Pa, who is currently working for Whāia Legal, as an Amo Ture (Associate). Dr Caitlin Bland who has taken a role with Health Hawkes Bay and Liam McLeavey who is a Manager at PwC New Zealand. Liam supports clients across the public, private and community sectors in the areas of strategy, transformation and social equity. 

AUGUST BA5 - DR VICTORIA HATTON, FOODHQ

Dr Victoria Hatton spoke about the future of food, the impacts of exporting and imports to our future food economy.

JULY BA5 - PHIL GORMAN, GM, BREWTOWN

Geoff Douch took over the helm of Electra in late 2023, and spoke about Electras journey of overcoming challenges and driving unprecedented growth and pressures now facing the diversification of the energy industry.

MAY BA5 - SHAMUBEEL EAQUB, ECONOMIST 

Shamubeel Eaqub is an experienced economist who makes economics easy and is well known to us in Horowhenua, informing our growth strategy and population forecasts used by Council in its long term planning. He is also an author, media commentator and a thought leading public speaker. He holds a BCOM with Honours in Economics from Lincoln University and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

APRIL BA5 - NICOLA NATION, ĀKINA FOUNDATION 

The Ākina Foundation is a social enterprise which aims to transform the economy by working alongside government, businesses, iwi and community-led organisations to put positive social and environmental impact at the heart of our economy. 

Nicola Nation donated her speaking fee to the flowing Food Banks  Shannon Foodbank, Hope Hub, Levin Interchange Foodbank, St Vincent de Paul, and Foxton Foodbank. 

MARCH BA5 - ELECTRA, BETTER NZ TRUST, & EECA   

Jeffy Palamattam, Sustainability Lead at Electra, along with Rob Birnie, an advocacy for electric vehicles and sustainable transport from Better NZ Trust, and Camilla Cochrane,  Manager Transport at  EECA spoke to over 70 people at Te Takeretanga o Kura- hau-pō on the future of electric cars, transport and infrastructure to support the future change facing business owners fleets. 

FEBRUARY BA5 DAVID CUNLIFFE   - POLIS CONSULTING 

David Cunliffe is a New Zealand management consultant and former politician and Director in Polis Consulting. David shared his views on the new government's first 100 days and the regional opportunities he sees for Horowhenua, particularly with the Ō2NL project set to unlock the district to future growth.
